Ever since the big earth quake hit Haiti over a week ago, people there have felt daily aftershocks as many as 10+ per day.  The biggest aftershock (magnitude 6.1) so far has hit the nation’s capital early Wednesday morning, sending hundreds running thru the streets.  The fear of a tsunami is on everyone’s mind some for safetly of their loved ones other for a chance to pickup dropped items as people run for safety.

The aid and medical supplies have started to flow in the most devastated parts of the country, with Canadian forces arrive on the beach to reach some of the farthest area outside of downtown Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

According to the United States Geological Survey, Wednesday’s quake struck about 35 miles northwest of Port-au-Prince, lasting several seconds and terrifying a nation that is still in shock from last week’s catastrophic earthquake.

There have been no reports of the type of damage and/or injuries as a result of this morning’s big aftershock, authorities believe it is low but we have no confirmation yet.

The bottle neck is still occuring at the Port-au-Prince airport due to all the planes landing with supplies, but there are limited heavy equipment required to off load these monster supply planes.  The United States and Canada both have large contingences only hours or days away that will start clearing roads and setting up some basic infrastructure that has all be destroyed.

The American Red Cross is leading the way in assistance along with World Vision who had a large presence in Haiti for over 25 years. Text messaging campaigns have been a big part of the quick success in raising donations, both Red Cross and Wyclef Jean’s Yele (http://yele.org/) have had successful text messaging campaigns that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid to Haiti.
