After 10 mortar shells hit Israel, forcing Israeli warplanes into action dropping leaflets warning Gaza residents to stay clear of the border.

The leaflets warned residents not to come within 300 meters of the border fence, and to avoid involvement with weapons smugglers along the Gaza-Egypt border.

The Israeli army says some of the mortar shells landed in Israel near the Kerem Shalom crossing with the Gaza Strip.  There were no reports of casualties or damage.

The development comes one year after Israel carried out a three-week offensive against Hamas militants in Gaza.  Israel says the operation was aimed at halting rockets attacks into Israel.

Palestinian militants have since carried out sporadic rocket and mortar attacks that have provoked Israeli military strikes.

At least 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed in the fighting during Israel’s Gaza offensive.

It’s amazing to think that mortar firing will only be responded to with stronger force to show those militants will see they are hitting a Giant not a small ant.
